Weeknotes 011
Week 11. This will be a short weeknote to follow a busy week. Christmas is ramping up, and my time is feeling the bite.
We launched. I’ll write a case study soon enough, but ecosyste.ms Funds is what I’ve been working on the past few weeks, and we hit a milestone this week with our launch, to support an initial amount of funding. TLDR: This is allocative funding for open source software based on usage, criticality and volume of downloads. I designed the branding, look and feel, illustrations and coded the front end, working closely with Andrew on the development side, and Ben, leading the product. We’ve still got lots of work to do in the form of building out features but it feels brilliant to have something live in just a few weeks.
Listening
So much this week, The Smile, The Black Dahlia Murder. But I’ll just focus on The Streets. I tend to do a yearly relisten and this year it really hit me how much Mike Skinner’s outlook on life, and his production style forms a big part of my late teens and early twenties.
Reading
I’m nearly at the end of ‘The Colour of Magic’. I’ve found it really hard to read, not because it isn’t good, because obviously it is, but because it’s so hard to read without feeling its influence in every bit of sci-fi and fantasy I’ve read as an adult. I can liken it to when I listened to Pink Floyd, or Rush for the first time, and all I could hear was the hundreds of bands that came after. It might need a reread, but probably not before I carry on with the series.
Watching
In preparation for season two, I rewatched season one of Severance. The second time round was nearly as good as the first. The aesthetic is perfect, and it gave me second-watch-of-fight-club vibes. Knowing the big reveal that is coming means you view the whole thing from a slighty different POV.
